The last days of summer are here! It’s that time when school starts back up and life seems to pick up the pace to that more frenetic pace. My youngest son starts his final year of college! How has that happened? It’s kind of killing me…I loved having him home working locally all summer, as well as having my other son nearby. Truly…the highlights of my summer.
I’ve had a relatively calm summer. Spent time working out and feeling healthy, still getting my strength back on that crazy right arm after that shattering of the wrist last Nov. I had time to spend with family and friends, and I got “Ever Blondeward” up on it’s feet for the first time at the Creative Cauldron on August 5th and 6th. It was a great success. We had a terrific band with Danny Villanueva on percussion, Dan Hall on Bass, my friend and guitarist extraordinaire, Jack Cavari came down from NY, and of course, my wonderful long-time musical director, Lanny Meyers was at the keyboard.
My wonderful director, Andrea Marcovicci, unfortunately, couldn’t be with us as she was on a trip, but it was a great time.
Putting up a new show is always a little scary. Because even though I know I love the music we have selected, it’s never a gimme that everyone in the audience will enjoy it.
But, we had terrific folks who were incredibly responsive and I had lots of fun flirting with several of the men in the house. Their dates/wives were all pretty cool with it. I really am harmless. We are looking forward to getting it up in LA in the early start of 2017!
Heading out to LA for a short stay before returning here to DC to make an excursion to various parts of Africa on a philanthropic trip. It should be interesting.
I will miss not being here in DC with some friends I had hoped to work with, but hopefully some other opportunities will find their way to me before the next season wraps up. I do want to continue to be on the DC stages as well. It’s tricky getting older… not as many roles in musicals for me. Some great ones in plays, but I have got to figure out how to get some of these casting folks to look beyond my musical background. I know I could surprise them! I will keep fighting the good fight!
So, happy fall… I will continue my quest to grow as an artist and actor and continue to study, take class and try to live as authentic a life as I can.
And to reiterate my newest show and phrase;
I am Ever Blondeward!
